…A gazillion times? I am looking for a song and production to mix. The catch is, a bunch of people are going to do mixes on it besides me.

If you have a song that you would like mixed, and it’s a killer song, put up a URL to an MP3 so that we can listen to the song. I’m locking the topic after the first 20 submissions, so don’t put it off until tomorrow.

What I’m looking for is a great song; preferably with real instruments; no more than 3:30 in length or the ability to make it 3:30 simply by fading it and without diminishing the integrity of the song; preferably with a vocalist.

I don’t care if the mix is lousy, that’s the whole point. I don’t care if the production is confused. I just want to find a great song to mix.

not my music (i couldn't write my way out of a paper bag) but one of my best friends stuff that i helped with. check London Town i guess, as it's one of the few that meet the time criteria. not everyone's cup of tea i'm sure, but if nothing else ther's lots of elements to mix/arrange etc, and if someone could make it cool and 'killer', that'd be interesting ;) ...it's 16 bit PT by the by...

Here's a song that my band is currently working on. The only thing that is missing at this point is background vocals (i'll add them tonight and repost the MP3). If you want rough, this is it - we just finished tracking it tonight. I put this mix together real quick just to get it posted. It clocks in at just over 3:30.

Here's some tunes for you to remix, if you'd like!

The first and third songs... (Doin' Nothin' and Angel Child) are both closer to 5 minutes, but they have instrumental parts that could be trimmed down to get the songs to 3:30.
All the tracks are real instruments, except the drums, which are a full-size, 5-piece electronic kit.

All the other songs on our page were recorded on a cheapo Korg D8 with crappy cables and such.
So, if you're looking for a REAL challenge, try one of those songs! :D
Actually, they're also pretty good tunes... maybe a professional remix might not be a bad idea. They all have real acoustic drums, too.

(Make sure to listen to Nothing But Candlelight... it has some great Soprano-sax in it!)

Alright, I'll jump into this hornet's nest. I've got lots of cool stuff from my archives that I'd love to hear other people mix. The only problem, is, everything I have access to is either 2" 24 or 16 trk. If anyone is interested, I'll see what links I can provide, and you can hear what I did with it. I might be able to xfer to ProStools for interested parties, but I'd need funds for shipping and xfer costs. Probobly not prohibitive for the serious mix students out there. Let me know, you mixmasters.

I've been listening to the songs when I get home at night. I'm not going to say anything until we have 20 to choose from. Then I'll open a thread to discuss what we have as possibilities.

Nobody should worry about format. We can probably deal wih any of those issues.

And Mark, what the hell do you think you're doing? Do you really think a placeholder is going to cut the mustard?

I wrote and recorded it at home using Cubase VST 5/32. Most of the instruments except the strings were played by me also. The singer is a friend of mine, she`s just 19. It is a very relaxed and laid back song with real strings, rhodes, guitars, bass guitar machine beats and analog syths. I sped it up by 6 bpm after mixdown using prosoniqs timefactory, which worked fine.
The vinyl sound you here at the beginning was the rhythmic basis for the song.
Even if it won`t get mixed, I`d appreciate some feedback, just keep in mind that it is a home production and I`m only 22.

OK, the band is called Red Sonn Fox. The song is called Deep Diving. It's about 4:20 but the last minute or so could easily be edited down.

Drums, 2 guitars, bass and 3 vocals - plus a brief 12-string acoustic overdub. We've only done a basic demo so far (does it show??), but I wouldn't need much encouragement to go in and re-track it.

I'm hoping that I'll get it together today and have a rough mix of the song posted. I already have a rough mix on cassette that has what I think are the required edits already done. I'd like to post the unedited version of the song so that my edits don't sway anyone if the song happens to get picked. Any way, I should have it up by the end of today.

There's still room for more songs. There are allot of midi drums in the submissions we have. I really think it would be far more beneficial for this project to have real drums. Sorry to dissapoint. Please, more submissions. When we get some more, I'll open up a thread for everyone to comment on the songs if they wish. There are some that I would like to comment on as well.

Thanks Roger, that song is off our second CD 'Overhaul', Honest Engine toured throughout the West in support of that disc. Lots of um, interesting times :)

I guarantee that if you get that boat your recordings will improve. Time spent away from the studio always improves my chops (at least that's what I tell my wife).

George is welcome to participate once we get started with this. The purpose is to give learning engineers a chance to hack at a good track, and then to illustrate the many ways that a production can be perceived and mixed by the more experienced mixers. I would imagine, and hope, that more than one persons mix will maximize the potential of the song.

As mixing is not a sporting event (I must give Fletcher credit for that concept), there will only be winners here. I expect that you will be participating as well.

Oh, and it's about time you came by to my forum and stirred up some shit. What took you so long?

Well, I guess I might as well jump in here. Here are some tracks from a project I have been working on all summer with a singer/songwriter friend. We tracked all the instruments in my attic, drums, bass, guitars, keys, melodica, whatever. Not all the songs on this page are from the sessions and there are a few more that are not up yet but check out Seatown, Empire, Black Sand Beach, or Broken
Board.
His songs are great and we recorded a lot of "spice" tracks(tambourine, shakers, weird muttering, melodicas thru leslies, etc..) that I used sparingly but the songs could lend themselves well to a mixing project, in my opinion.
