I've been getting pretty lately busy so if I'm not recording beats I should be doing something else which leaves no time for me to actually read about it and learn. I'm using an Alesis MultiMix8 USB mixer with an MPC1000 and MX1 hooked up to it and of course sound comes out when I'm playing it through my monitors but I can't get my DAW to recognize it so it could record them. I'm using Sonar 8.5 producer for the first time and I'm kind of lost with the system and I haven't gotten to reading the manual yet because I literally just installed it a little over 24 hours ago. Could someone please run by me step-by-step what I'm suppose to do for it to start recording or at least give me a general idea of what could possibly be the problem and how to solve it?

Some of the following may sound like I'm blasting you, but please don't take it that way. I think you'll find this a good place to get information from knowledgeable people, but you have to realize that there's not much sympathy for someone who thinks they are too busy to read the manual. People here are busy, also. And, they are more than glad to help, if someone has taken some measures to try to learn first.
Sonar manuals are pretty good at getting someone started. You have to go through the setup process, do some test recordings, play around with it. There is no easy way for anyone here to get you started. What any of us would have to do is basically copy the manual's procedures for you to read them here. Why? It's in the manual you have already. That doesn't make much sense, does it?
Besides, Sonar is such a deep product that you won't be able to use it properly and to its fullest without keeping the manual handy.
I will give you this. Go to the beginning, and go through the setup procedures. Then, go through some of the examples to familiarize yourself. I don't know if your version of Sonar has any kind of Alesis instrument definitions or templates or something that will allow you to interfece it directly and easily. If not, there may be some online.
Everyone on this forum is more than glad to help, if you've at least expended some energy to try to learn things yourself. Most of the people here have learned by doing as much as they can by themselves, and then asking specific questions when they hit a roadblock, a problem, are confused, or just want something explained better. And frankly, you're asking people who are also busy, many with professional projects, to take time out of their day to tell you what's in the manual that should be in your hands. Because you're too busy and in a hurry? See the problem?
There is no easier "getting started" procedure that anyone here could write than what's already in the manual.
So, try to get it going, and if you hit a specific snag, please post back, and anyone here would be more than willing to try to help with your more specific problem. That's how this works. Get as far as you can, be specific, and you'll likely get reasonable and helpful responses.
