Hi all.

I am a student living in Europe. I have made myself a little home studio : i play the bass guitar, learn acoustic guitar, own a cheap drum machine, and a 8 track mixer. I'm getting a microKORG controller/keyboard. My PC has the regular Sound Blaster Live card.

I am looking for a good midi sequencer, and a software that would let me record 1.what the sequencer recorded, and 2.the other instruments such as live keyboard, bass and guitar.

I'm thinking of something like Reason (is there a cheaper software that has keyboards AND a drum machine ?), for the sequencer side, and something like HomeStudio on the recording side.

Does this software [HomeStudio] let me use channels from Reason in the mix ?

So to summarize i'm looking for good software for beginner, more or less cheap, that would let me sequence in midi w/ keyboards and *drums* (very important) + a recording solution that doest' reduce the sequencer to a simple stereo track (so that I can controll various aspects of the sequencer, duh.)

Thanks A LOT, as I have no idea of what software i should get.

Hi Eddy, first of all, i have to say that I´m no professional at this, and I´m barely starting as you are in this. However, it seems to me that probably the so-popular-around-here SONAR could prabably help you, since it´s made, I hear, by the same designers of cakewalk, which does include MIDI features. I hope this can help in any way.

I would second SONAR for a good all around first step.

Something else to consider is your sound card. the one you have doesn't support ASIO. This becomes an issue when you have your bass guitar track down and now you want to record the guitar while listening to the bass in playback. I dont think the card you have is well equipped to keep the latency problems in check. It may not even be able to play back and record sound at the same time, although mostly it's only older cards that have this problem.
