Hey everyone! I have been trying for some time now to set up a home studio. I started with a laptop running Vista 32bit with a Intel duo core processor and 3 gigs of RAM running Cakewalk Sonar Home Studio 7. I still have not been able to get Cakewalk to operate on that system without dropouts and glitches in the audio.
I changed to another laptop this time running Vista 64 bit with a duo core AMD processor. I can open cakewalk and press one key on my keyboard and it immediately drops out.
A couple of days ago a relative of mine was going to toss a HP Pavilion Desktop running Windows XP with a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core processor 2.20 Ghz with 2 gigs of ram. Instead of tossing it he gave it to me. I deleted most of the programs off of the computer and freed up 89% of the hard drive. When I tried to load cakewalk the computer will not even recognize the disk. Cakewalk states on their site that Home Studio 7 is compatible with XP.
Since I can't get the cakewalk software running I loaded Cubase LE which came with my E-MU 0202 interface. It loaded and came up fine. When I played through it I had lots of latency issues. When I accessed the audio drivers it was set to it was not on the Asio driver for the 0202. When I changed the driver to the Asio 0202 I can't get any sound at all out of the system. When I try to change the driver back to the way it was working in the beginning it still doesn't work. I have made sure that windows is not using the 0202. I don't know what else to do to get sound out of the device. Any suggestions?

I have searched both websites extensively. They both say to use the Asio driver that is for the 0202. I have that driver selected. Also the Cubase website says to be sure and leave your on board sound card for the computer turned on and be sure it is selected as default. I have done this. I am unable now to get any sound out of the comp or Cubase.
To recap the computer is set to the on board sound card, Cubase is set to the E-MU 0202. I'm getting no sound out of the computer or Cubase. There has got to be some little something that I am missing.

Have you imported an audio track into Cubase to see if you get signal from it? Or are you trying to monitor an input signal coming into the interface? I ask this because input monitoring can be a whole different issue.

That's whole point of using an interface vs. a built-in sound card.
Set it to ASIO 0202 and then check your settings in Cakewalk, Cubase, and any available for the EMU unit.
(sorry, not familiar w/ the 0202 or your version of Sonar)
I would suggest checking both Emu and Sonar sites for troubleshooting and user forums.
When you've sussed that out, and you still don't have a solution -
you'll have better information to give us to help you.
Right now all we can do is suggest what a manual or FAQ might suggest.
