Hello all

First off I want to say that this site rocks, and I am truly impressed by the professional and friendly advice that all of you give.

Ok I have tons of material that I have been writing for about 5 years now. And I want to be able to start recording. Through the very sound advice on this site, I have been slowly buying pieces of gear to record with and I am finally ready to start recording.

The main reason I want to do the recording at home is because it is were I feel the most comfortable. Also I would love to go into a studio and start making records, but I just dont have that kind of money. So I have come up with a plan that might let me get the best of both worlds. Please let me know if this is good plan or not?

I want to record my music at home with the equipment I have, which is (AT4050 mic, RNP Preamp, Nuendo and Cubase ( yes there leagal, bought them off of ebay) and a Lynx L22 soundcard. I play guitar, bass, vocals, and Reason. I am a solo artist (by choice). So I figured If I record each track with a pretty decent signal chain, I could send the project file to one of you guys to mix it. I would give anyone that wants to take this on total freedom, and do whatever they feel sounds best. I want to do it this way because I cant mix, and its one of those things I dont think I will ever be able to do. I deeply respect the art that you guys have. I am sure anyone of you would do a great job, but I was hoping I could get someone that would run the tracks through some of those famous outboard pieces you guys have compressors, pre, and analog reel to reel. I LOVE ANALOG SOUND!

Plese let me know if this is the right way to go. And if so? Is there anyone on here that would like to take this project on? please let me know, we could talk price and direction later on.

Thanks guys, hope this is'nt a stupid post.

What exactly is your target here? Is it for demo material? For an album release? Just a hobby?

I'd be willing to try to help you out - though I'm hardly a pro, I'll work for free, and I think it would be good experience for me, as well. ;) Totally "in-the-box" though - I don't have any outboard equipment handy at home.

If you don't get any other offers, maybe we can have a little chat. (And assuming you aren't going for big-game hits, which would be way out of my league)

Nothing wrong with your plan as many do the same thing and I've had many people bring me their material for mixing just like you. But, you need to be aware of a few things.

That big analog sound you like so much is not something that is usually just obtained by outboard gear alone in the mixing stage. It begins with great instruments, the right microphone selection, the room you record in, the signal processing chain before it gets recorded, and the skills of the person doing the recording.

Also, the one band man thing is fun and easy with what is available for anybody to do, but it is very difficult to get the same feel to the music as you do with the kind of interaction you get from a full band or with more than one person performing.

You might also consider taking your material to a decent studio with outboard gear for mixing and observe what and how that person does while mixing although I know I like to mix alone at least until I get to the 1/2 way point.

Once you get some stuff finished, send me some roughs and I will listen to see if this is something I can get into. If it is my cup of tea, I would be happy to take on the project. I am running Cubase VST 5.1 so I guess that would be the best program to record on. I have a load of vintage comps and eqs so I am sure I can get what you are looking for. Kurt

Thanks everyone

Kurt Sounds good :) I will send you a couple of clips, from a couple of differant songs so you can see if its your flavor or not? From song to song the sound is very differant so thats why I will send more than one. It will be about a month before I am ready, I just wanted to plan ahead and see what everyone thought.

Thanks agian guys , Kurt you will be hearing from me in about 3 or 4 weeks
