What exactly is your target here? Is it for demo material? For an album release? Just a hobby?

I'd be willing to try to help you out - though I'm hardly a pro, I'll work for free, and I think it would be good experience for me, as well. ;) Totally "in-the-box" though - I don't have any outboard equipment handy at home.

Nothing wrong with your plan as many do the same thing and I've had many people bring me their material for mixing just like you. But, you need to be aware of a few things.

That big analog sound you like so much is not something that is usually just obtained by outboard gear alone in the mixing stage. It begins with great instruments, the right microphone selection, the room you record in, the signal processing chain before it gets recorded, and the skills of the person doing the recording.

Also, the one band man thing is fun and easy with what is available for anybody to do, but it is very difficult to get the same feel to the music as you do with the kind of interaction you get from a full band or with more than one person performing.

You might also consider taking your material to a decent studio with outboard gear for mixing and observe what and how that person does while mixing although I know I like to mix alone at least until I get to the 1/2 way point.

Once you get some stuff finished, send me some roughs and I will listen to see if this is something I can get into. If it is my cup of tea, I would be happy to take on the project. I am running Cubase VST 5.1 so I guess that would be the best program to record on. I have a load of vintage comps and eqs so I am sure I can get what you are looking for. Kurt

Kurt Sounds good :) I will send you a couple of clips, from a couple of differant songs so you can see if its your flavor or not? From song to song the sound is very differant so thats why I will send more than one. It will be about a month before I am ready, I just wanted to plan ahead and see what everyone thought.

I'm currently outsourcing all the mixing for a commercial project. Be advised- It takes 4-6hrs per song to carefully mix,EQ,reamp, etc. etc. a commercial project. The fact that some of these badasses are offering to mix your work for cheap or free is a Godsend, so treat them like the gift from God they are.-Richie
