Hi all...I just discovered this thread and enjoy it immensely. As for my problem...

I'm getting an echoing background flutter behind my MIDI notes. For example, I select MIDI "rock organ" then hit middle C. The "rock organ" sound is fine yet as it decays, I get an echoing flutter in the background. This same flutter is not consistent. It affects about half the MIDI voices. The other half sound fine.

Thinking it was a ground problem, I checked and straightened all my wires. No go. The flutter persists. I then switched off the lights, the fridge, and turned off all background programs. No luck. The flutter persists.

I am using XP, a 2G chip, Sonar, a Santa Cruz sound card, and a Yamaha Clavinova which is pretty old yet sounds just fine when played alone.

Any thoughts on resolving this issue will be gratefully received.

Jabeez, I read your post yesterday, and today I'm still not sure what you're describing. Is this "flutter echo" thing sounding like the note went thru a digital delay and came back softer, or is it just part of the note? could you describe it more thoroughly?

Right now, the only thing I can come up with is the possibility that you've somehow enabled MIDI effects in Sonar, and that there's a compressor or noise gate whose threshold is chattering on some sounds, but other sounds not hovering at the threshold long enough to cause this chattering.

Other than that, I'd need more description of the problem, as in what EXACTLY happens, from note on until complete silence, both with and without Sonar in the picture. (In other words, compare one of the sounds that has the problem, with that same sound played independent of the computer.)

With more info, maybe somebody can help... Steve
