Hi RO members..

s'been a while, and today I come to ask.. why is my amp rattling?

I have a Marshall TSL602 combo amp.. and when I play a bar chord (open or muted) on the 2nd Fret at standard tuning I hear something (metal sounding) in the top of my amp rattling/vibrating. This only happens on the 2nd fret - perhaps it's a particular frequency that my amp does not like..i don't know.

Should I be worried? because I am!

Could anyone suggest what this problem might be? I'm guessing I need to get this thing down to an authorised Marshall tech?

HELP!

This is just a dull and dreary 'process of elimination'. If you feel handy with a screwdriver I'm sure you could find the offending part by tightening everything up that you can get access to (PS to chassis, speaker to enclosure, chassis to enclosure, faceplate and controls to enclosure etc. etc.) you get the picture.

My Peavey TKO bass combo makes one whole wall in my basement rattle on the low G of any bass that I play through it (even at lower volumes, the same sympathetic vibration thing). That's a lot tougher one, as I'm not into completely redoing my wall.

If it's just a mechanical sound (as opposed to an electrical sound) I would be very tempted to try myself to fix it. You're just as likely to get it back from a tech with the vibration still there like when you take your car in for a strange noise, and they can never get rid of it.

My wife's 2 yr old Corolla has been into the shop 4 times for them to fix a rattle and they can't get it. They keep replacing things (thankfully under warranty) but have yet to eliminate the rattle.

Good luck.
