Hi all,

I'm thinking about upgrading the core of my DAW.

I was thinking of a mobo with an nForce3 chipset since my Tascam FW1082 seems to be allergic to anything with a VIA sticker on it.

My dilemma is with the processor: I'm not willing to spend the $$ that is needed for an AMD64 939 socket processor with 1Mb of L2 cache. I can afford a 754 socket processor with 1MB of L2, but that would leave me without diual channel memory.

So my question would be; what would be most benificial, a -let's say-

AMD64 3700+ 1MB L2 on a 754 socket (single channel mem)
or
AMD64 3800+ 512kb L2 on a 939 socket (dual channel mem)

Both would have 2G of RAM.

I'm running Sonar4SE usually ruinning around 15 channels of audio and some soft synths like guitar rig, Albino, BX4 and DFOH. (I don't really mind freezing synths)

Any help is highly appreciated,

Bubba,

-Relax, it's almost weekend-

you will get better memory bandwidth with the 939.

that equates to better VSTi/Softsynth performance.

either would suite you, howeveer the dual core processors are coming. with the 939 subsystem you will be able to drop a dual core in there later, the 754 will most likely not allow for this.
