Great microphone value...can you guess what it is?
Okay, so I was in Guitar Center the other day...you know...just talking to friends...I wouldn't *buy* things there, right?
Anyway, my usual sales guy always tells me of the good deals they have in the store that he knows I'd be interested in.

Serious ? about mic cabling
OK... this is serious now. Any of you classical recording pros want to fess up and tell me what brand and type mic cables you are running, and why?
Quad or regular? Silver, copper? Minature?
What are you running for line level?
Soldered or solderless connectors?
What kind of solder?
Anyone experience handling noise that goes right up into the mic?

Converting Light Stands to Mic Stands
Ben, you in particular I've seen mention that you use tall light stands for microphone stands. I want to do that as well--but not before I know how to adapt the 5/8" threads to 5/8"-27 (standard) microphone stand threads. How do you do it?

Omni-directional mic for background/far voices
Scenario: We have around 20-30 people meeting in a normal house living room and we would like to record the discussions. So we would need a microphone that can be placed in the center and that can record voices of people 15-20 feet away - more like being able to record all the background noises.
Live Vocal Mic
I am a singer who would like to record myself performing in master-classes in a fairly small rooms and recital halls. I am usually singing either by myself or accompanied by piano. I will either plug the mic either into a recording adapter I got for my iPod or directly into my computer (macbook).

So I am looking for a good, warm, vocal recording mic for under 300 or so. Any recommendations? might also use it for acoustic guitar, irish whistle and bouzouki for adding tracks
