Tracking vocals today. RODE K2Tube condenser mic. In the middle of a lyric, the mic preamptty much stopped working. Still had a signal but was about one tenth of the volume it should have been at. The singer for some reason pulled the pop-stopper off of the mic right before it crapped out. Checked the tube and it appeared to be fine. Would spit hitting the diaphram cause a short or something?

Hi, I'm totally new to recording.

I'm getting a Fostex 8-track. What would be better for recording guitar, piano, conga and cello? I'm planning to play all of these instruments myself so I'm going to record each separately.

I've been messing around with trying to use Sennheiser 800 mics to record a prepared santur up very close. The cardioid pattern sounds interesting with these mics but the overall sound quality is too hyped up for this application.

Does it lack a lot of functions from the original version? I know it does not support some plugins that i have to pay for anyway if i want them. But I can save about a 100$ on that. I am a student so i qualify. thank you

Is it a good idea to use mic clips on drums for the recording?

I think i will go with Audix D-vice, but take a look at these ones... they are kind of cheap.

lately i haven't been happy with how my sound is, and i think it might be because of the firepod that I'm running everything through. I was wondering what everyone thought would improve the sound more. a new interface such as the Mackie 800R or if anyone has any suggestions or a some new mics. I have 4 sm57, Beta 52, AKG Perception 200 and two of those really crappy $60 MXL mics.

Hi all. I've got a friend who recently did a factory-direct buy of some Chinese mics. He's holding a pair of ribbon mics (they're un-branded, but the same as the rectangular bodied Avantone ribbons) for me. The price is right, but I'm wondering about the cheap pre's I have, and if they will cut it with a pair of ribbons.

I don't own any true omnis. When I want to use one, I go with a C414 in omni mode. So what omni mics (and at what price) would be a clear step up from the C414s either for use as omni outriggers in orchestral recording or for close Micing of acoustic instruments. (I've used the C414s as omni outriggers, but have usually chosen another pattern when using them in the studio.)
