Pink Floyd at Sound Techniques 1967
I was watching the Peter Whitehead film of the Pink Floyd recording at Sound Techniques in Chelsea, curious to see what it revealed about drum microphone placement. It was interesting to see that the drums were miked with one kick drum mic and one overhead mic (which looked like it was sticking right into Nick Mason's face). Nothing on the snare, and only one of the double kicks was miked.

Wavescompressors
do any of you guys use Waves compressors straight to disk while recording vocals. I'm wondering how it sounds? would an outboard compressor sound a lot better? if so... how much am I looking at for a good one?
which Waves compressor do you use?
is there other plugin compressors you like better than Waves?
Thanks,
Mark

I was just doing my everyday browse through the web and nearly fell asleep until I found this pretty nice dissertation by two graduates at Detmold University over here in Germany which actually confirmed what I have always been thinking or at least been very suspicious about the industry's hype!

Hot plates & Marshall heads
Does anyone use a hot plate on their guitar setup? My guitar player has a Gibson LesPaul and a Marshall head (not sure of the Wattage) he also uses a 4 X 12 cabinet.
He is having problems getting his sound to be "driven" enough and not end up being too loud.
