Neve Melbourn w/3119 Should I?

I found a Melbourn 24*4*2 discrete with 3119eq's and 2 send for $30,000. Again, i've got the PT3 rig and a VOxBox and that's it. The question is, would I be stupid to get the Neve over the mini Sony console and a decent mic collection? I do not run a public studio so clients aren't the issue. I do some TV music and write/record for my band.

Tiny triangle waves?

Maybe Greg can help me here:

I was asked by a colleague to help him xfer an older existing Pro Tools session into his Radar system, so he could mix it for a client (he doesn't own Pro Tools).

The session was only 14 tracks (jazz), so we connected the AES/ebu outputs of two 888's to go digitally directly into the radar. Everything was clocked with my Lucid Genx6.

Mackie D8b DC offset anyone?

Any D8b users ever check the amount of DC offset at the AES or SPDIF outputs? I recently did and its a lot! Here's the test: Most of us have the Apogee clock card and three Dig I/O installed and run vr. 3.0 Unplug all mic & line cabling as well as dig I/O cabling to cards. Set all faders to unity turn off all EQ,Comp,Gate and assign to the 2-bus.

couple questions for those who know what they're talkin

Heya I'm a little stuck on a few questions...

1. If a song has a tempo of 112 BPM, how long is one beat (in milliseconds)?

2. On a digitial delay, which parameter allows you to create multiple delays?

3. What type of dynamic processor triggers when the signal falls below the threshold? (is this one an expander?)

4. Why do we usually compress to tape?
