OK, I've been reading up around these forums and have found some useful information but not quite specific enough. We want to start recording, but, we are not sure where to start. Ive been looking through my Musicians Friend catalogs but still confused. I have looked at PCI cards and it seems like they would work but id like to be sure. We are positive we want to do it through the computer.

So here's one that may not get talked about a lot.

I hear a lot of talk here about the importance of preamps, and that the pros will sometimes grab a cheap mic, but they never run it through a cheap preamp. I'm beginning to understand tht pres are very important.

I know that it's based on Norwegian folk story, but maybe somebody can tell me that story? Who are those Trolls, where do they marching, why do they do it? Just interesting. Search on the internet didn't give much light.

I'm in the process of getting a new DAW and wanting to get some advice on what LCD monitor to purchase.

I've only owned CRT monitors in the past and not sure what to look for in a LCD monitor for DAW use. I'm wanting something that's easy on the eyes with crisp text.

What brand, size, and model number LCD monitor do you use or recommend?

I looking for reviews on this pair of headphones. Are they good for monitoring?

I need new monitors for mixing, and I'm doing a lot of research and reading reviews. At first I thought of getting the Event ASP6, because I own some 20/20p right now, and I tend to be conservative in my choice of equipment. Then I heard about Dynaudio...

One drawback of the Edirol DA-2496 8 in/8 out interface is that it doesn't have effects inserts for things like compressors.

Apart from Keyboards and PC (Software, VSTs), what hardware do you use that give you more creative ideas/freedom. Some of my friends use turntables, some use the MPCs. (most use software programs like Reason, Ableton, Acid etc).

I am starting a new project and would like some suggestions. I am recording tracks that I plan on playing live at coffee houses, and want them to sound very similar (but not exactly) on CD as they will live. I also want the mixes to sound good in their own right, and have been unable to find any commercial examples of the setup I intend to use.

Hey guys, I (conservatively) have about $5000-$6500 to work with. I am going to overhaul the way I work in my studio. First of all, character of sound is very important to me. I think some things should sound "warm" or "gritty" or "electronic" etc... depending on the situation so I want some flexibility.
