RME Hammerfall 9632 / Totalmix software

UPS should be delivering this to me tomorrow. I bought for the reputed stabilty with Cubase and the top shelf converters. I am counting on a significant upgrade from the M-Audio Quatro currently in service. The piece I am intrigued with is the total mix software. Anyone using this that could offer up some possibilities for its use? I don't know a lot about it.

recording with a MOTU 828mkII and need more preamps

I need to mic up a drum kit to my MOTU 828mkII, but it only comes with 2 preamps.

Is there any rack mount preamps or some cheap alternative to give me the extra 5-8 preamps for mice?

I need to go with the cheapest, but best sounding piece of gear out there. So if it's only $100, that's great, but if it's more like $500, I can still afford it...

My first PC/DAW build ..will these components work ?

I've never spec'd out a PC before.

I want a store to build a PC for my teen son - he's been playing electric guitar ( lessons ) for a couple of years now and he'd like to try recording to a PC.

Although good sound / recording is the priority it'll also be a multi - purpose PC ( some gaming, downloading etc. )

Gear to begin learning on?

Well Ive been recording home demos with me and a friend for quite some time. Just one (sometime two) guitar track, bass, vocals, and the occasion drums. Im starting to upgrade to something a bit more professional and want to go the DAW route. I want a nice firewire interface (something like a MOTU 828 or the PreSonus Firepod) paired with a good preamp.
