Which compressors for the job?

I'm looking into getting my drum kit seriously miked up, and i've got an idea of some good mics to use. I'm curious to know: I've read that using compression on kicks and snares can be a great idea for an awesome sound, i'm just curious to know what compressors to use. I'm on a really tight budget, so not too much flexibility there.

Hello everyone, I'm kinda new here and i have a doubt (i dont know if this is the right place for it, but ill give it a try)
I have a bass and an Audigy 2 ZS Platinium =), and i want to know if I can simply plug the bass directly in the front panel (LineIn2) and record or should i do something else to get better sound quality?

Latency if running a firepod live.

I'm just curious, I know you'd never want to replace a mixer with a setup like this, but.

If you were to use 2 firepods and a super solid computer that you build yourself and is dedicated just for that purpose for live audio and mixing, could that possibly work? Would the latency be really noticable in a live application?
