I really kinda liked the Studio Projects Vtb-1 pre, but it is only one channel... I realize this is a tall order, but is there a tube pre out there with four channels thats worth mentioning? I realize this is a tall order, so I guess I could drop it down to 2 channels if its necessary...

how do i hook up studio monitors to the soundcard? do i have to buy a mixer or can i just plug them into the card directly?

Is this a standard practice for some mastering engineers?

Most of the computer interfaces that I've seen that have XLR or neutrik inputs go through an internal preamp. If I have a mic connected to a good external preamp, would the interface's lower-quality preamp cause any problems, or is there a better way to connect? I'm looking at a usb interface as it's for a laptop.

I have a small Yamaha mixer going through my soundcard(EMU 0404) and monitors. The problem is there is no headphone jack on the computer to plug my headphones into, and if I plug the cans into the mixer, it records the playback in the cans and new tracks going through the mic. There has to be a way to record while listening to playback without recording the playback with the equipment I have.

Ok. here is what I'm getting in order over the course of the next 2 years (I'm unemployed as of Friday so I'm broke). .let me know what you think.
