I just bought and installed the soundcard yesterday. When I install the hardware, and then the drivers it installs fine, for music playback. The pc doesn't detect the settings for recording. I've tried re-installing the drivers but I still get the same result, and I've even switched thePCI slots. In the properties in Volume Control, I click on Recording and there is just a blank entry box.

Hi, I'm a REAL amateur when in comes to home recording (and computers come to think of it), hence all I have is a BossBR-864 8-track and a microphone (along with guitars drums etc etc). Basically I'm having a problem deciphering the manual, and have ended up with 2 complete songs of 6/7 tracks that I'm not able to export off the machine with mysteriously losing random tracks.

I've totally f-d up... I have an ApogeeRosettaAD and I use Pro Tools to edit...

What I did.
Sample rate on my session file was 44.1k
and was set to external clock, my rosetta, which was set at 48k

I feel as though I'll never be a "real" audio engineer for the fact that everything I know/do (not much) is in the digital domain. Sit me down at a DAW and I can create something that is at least decent. Through me in a room full of analog and I'm junk because I've never used it. I really want to start building a hybrid of analog/digital, but I'm not sure where/how to start.

I'm new to the game of recording so please bare with me. i was just wondering what some cheap external devices for a pc are that you can record 8 tracks or more simultaniously? or whatever you guys recommend. i dont know where to look for good quality. is m-audio any good? it doesnt neccisarily have to be 8 tracks i guess.

In the past month or two I've posted a couple very board questions. I've learned a lot since then, but still have a long ways to go before I understand all these things.

If I may, I'd like to ask a question regarding previously recorded/owned material. Can someone please tell me the process involved in getting the rights to use a song recorded and released by someone else in a video project (specifically an direct to DVD series). The intent is to have a short portion of the song included as bedding.
