Converters and Laptop interface

Until now, I have been tracking to a Mackie hard disk recorder (SDR) and then dumping all the tracks onto my computer for editing/mixing, but I have decided that this process is too inefficient and am going to sell the recorder and record straight to the computer. So now i need an audio interface, but I'm having problems finding any that will suit my needs and price range.

I have a few things, need something to record

Well i got 8 Shure sm57 mics with mic lines and a big Yamaha mixing console which aplifies the mics.

Here is the deal i'm looking for a decent recording sound card close or better than CD quality.

I will be recording some songs that are just vocals and acoustic guitar, both using mics.

Federal grants for recording studios

I am trying to help one of my best friends, who co-owns a recording studio in Pana, Illinois (United States), find funding sources (grants, etc...) so that he and his partner may relocate their studio to another part of Illinois and also update their equipment.

I've been searching federal grant information, but I'm not really finding anything.

Room for improvement

While I"m just a working man who enjoys writing and recording my own music in my spare time like a lot of other people I"m forced to keep my hobbie cost as low as I can. Although my equipment produces good recordings I know they could be better. At the lowest cost to me can you suggest where I could make the biggest improvement? Can you give me product names and prices?
