Removing stereo component of recording and leaving center?

I can do the opposite (removing the center), that's easy, but I'm beating myself over the head trying to figure out how to do the reverse. :(

I'm using the phase invert function in pro tools. Please tell me this is scientifically impossible so I can get on with life, or tell me how to do it

Thanks

How to connect a subwoofer if you've only got two outs

I have a pair of Genelec 1029A active monitors and am considering buying the subwoofer to go with them. But how should I connect it? I have a Behringer MX 2642A desk and an Audiowerk 2 card. At the moment the two outs from the card go into the desk group ins. How would the signal get split into the "bass" bit and the "rest"? Where do the cables go?

unbalanced vs balanced and my equiptment

i've read stuff about certain peices of equiptment being balanced and unbalanced and stuff like that. on my 8-track, fostex mr-8, I have two balanced XLR inputs and two unbalanced 1/4" inputs.

Now, I just got a mixer (Soundcract Series 1S) and someone said something that its pin 3 hot. I don't know if that's unbalanced or balanced...

Help! Newbie Recording 2 (The Sequel)

I just got a Boss BR-864 and I am having problems with getting started. I want to incorporate drums sounds into the track first, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it. One would think that this would be easy, but of course not.

Anyway, I have tried playing along with a preset drum pattern while recording and the only thing that records is what I am playing.
