Hi all. I bought a used US-224 for a few bucks just to give it a whirl and it seems pretty cool. It has 24 bit A/D converters (64 times oversampling), but I'm not sure of the quality (I'm guessing not very high because you can find these things for less than $130). I'm wondering if I get a decent preamp to stick in front of the US-224 if it will make much of a difference in sound quality?

can one of you experts explain signal-to-noise ratios, like why exaclty peak levels are at -db, what about spl? I have a pretty good concept of them all, but no idea how they interconnect, or why they are really important. thanks!

Every studio has a certain amount of hum-problems, the more gear the more problems, I suppose.. Especially combining balanced and unbalanced gear seems to generate some problems, you may have outside factors that give you hum and probably a million reasons more. I've been trying to get my studio as quiet as possible for the last days but a couple of (very small) problems remain.

Im using a Delta 1010LT soundcard using Nuendo 1.52

My problem is that when I'm singing into a microphone i exprience a slight delay (of what is going into the mic) through the headphones... enough to distract me whilst recording

Where as when i set my output as the Monitors, its zero latency..

You hear it on the radio and in theaters; That HUGE monster size voice over (usually for emphasis).

what are some different ways that is achieved?
