PreAmp Hum
Forums
Ok so I bought 2 cheap little ART Media Tube Pre's for about 30 bucks a piece. I had read some suprising reviews about how they were actually pretty good expecially for the price. So a little curious I bought 2.
I actually use mine to warm up my vocals at my live show and the sound is actually very nice and warm.

I need some help deciding
Forums
Hey there, ive stumbled into a little dilemma and was wondering if i could get some outside input.
So I'm upgrading my home studio a bit and was wondering about some new gear.
I can either get a Summit audio 2ba-221 pre and work with the mic i have (mxl 990). Or i can go with the new Golden Age Pre-73 and also afford an oktavamod mk-319.
any ideas? thanks

MixCraft And FireWire?
Forums
So, I am using MixCraft 4.0 on my notebook PC and I have a 3 PORT FIREWIRE PCMCIA Adapter and I cannot figure out weather MixCraft is compatible with this kind of setup.
The reason I just can't test it is because I dont yet have the hardware. I have ordered a PreSonus 1394 FireWire Audio Interface:

FireWire?
Forums
Ok, so I have a notebook pc that DOES NOT have a FireWire port in it... I would much prefer FireWire over USB so I was wondering if they make some sort of Ethernet > Firewire adapter?

Need some Advice: What am I missing?
Forums
My style of recording, or the style I'm going for, is the reverb/echo feel of José González meets the dry sound of Portishead (their third album). I'm going for minimalism like José but there's a lot I want to put in, freedom like Portishead.
Currently my mic is an Audio-Technica AT4041
My preamp/interface is a PreSonus Firebox
My recording software is Garageband 8

Home Studio project - Need Help!
Forums
Hi everyone, my name is Jean, I'm 19 and I live for electronic music! 8-) I'm DJing since I'm 17 and I have a monthly 1 hour set podcast that has been running for 8 months now. I love what I'm doing but, for the last few months, I've been looking for a more creative way to make music. I want to produce my own music, but only for fun, for the beginning at least...

Getting analog coloration/warmth with digital setup
Forums
Hey, I'm in the process of upgrading my studio and have a digital setup. I love the coloration an analog console can give, but at this time, I'm unable to afford a decent board.
Aphex Comps
Forums
Recently I've been searching for a decent, but not too expensive compressor for vocals. From a bunch of research, I was able to deduce that the Aphex 651 or 661 would be better for vocals than a dbx 160a. Now, the question is which Aphex compressor should I go with? The 651 or the 661.

Ambisonic recording
Forums
I've had the Cowboy Junkies' Trinity Sessions in pretty heavy rotation. Very cool sound. I read that it was recorded using ambisonic microphone techniques, so I started to read a bit about it. Very interesting. Invented by mathematicians! Has anyone around here used it? Any info on the Trinity Sessions?
