mxl 990/991 and toneport ux2 no sound

Hi, having problems with my mxl mics. The toneport works fine hooked up to my fender leccy but when i plug my mics in, i get nothing but harsh crackling sounds.
I got them going once by disconnecting and reconnecting them and then turning phantom power off then on again but it was a one time only. Any ideas anyone?

Regards, Dave.

Superior Drummer 2

Hi all,

So recently i bought Toontrack's Superior Drummer 2.
I record guitars, bass and vocals, but i sample the drums. (not enough space for drum recording)
SD2 sounds great in what it is, but i still dont have a midi controller, so i cant do anything.
What is the best way to sample the drums through midi? Should i buy a small keyboard, or a pad?

1/4" to XLR

Hi Guys,
I'm thinking of getting a new mixer and can't really afford the money to get one with more than 8 XLR inputs So I did some research and saw you can get 1/4" to XLR cables so i thought i could maybe put some of those in any spare 1/4 inputs as i need more XLR inputs. Would this work? And if it does would there be any major sound quality reduction?

Looking for options aside from the Avalon VT737

I am trying to upgrade my studio right now and I am looking to get the most for my money. My buddy runs an Avalon VT737 and I really really like the results we get with it. I know I need some help in the analog preamp/compressor territory. Is there a better option out there for the 2100 I'd drop on the 737? Like perhaps more channels, or just more versatility?

Electric Guitars

Hey All.
My last guitar purchase was an Ibanez RG prestige, which has left me struggling to afford a really good amp any time soon.
I have an awesome PC setup though, and I'm basically looking at how to get the best possible tone using plugins.
I've been recording with Guitar Rig, which is a great program, but I'm only getting OK results, nothing special.
