Life in the Entertainment Industry
Forums
Okay, so I'm seriously considering what I want to do with my life and I know I want it to be something involved with music. It's the only thing I feel a real passion for and I'm not a good enough musician to make a living so I thought about audio engineering. I've been checking out SAE Institute in NYC. It's only a 30 min train ride from my home and the tuition is $19,000.

Pitch correction...
Forums
Is it possible, using Autotune or another similar software, to manually change notes on a vocal track? Not just minor correction... I'm talking extreme vocal makeover. Like taking a vocalist who can sing only half of notes or less in tune, and making them sound as though they sang every note on tune.

Outdoors
Forums
Hello All,
I want to do a local live recording of a group that will be performing outside next month. One of my apprehensions are the PC DAW that I want to use. Mainly cooling.
Does anyone have any recommendations for doing this type of recording without the PC shutting down because it gets too hot?

AC Noise (w/ audio sample)
Forums
I moved into a new house about a month ago. The power in the recording area (a former garage converted into a bedroom) is really dirty: I can't record guitar amps right now because the noise is so bad. But I also found out this morning doing some acoustic guitar work that the noise is getting in through my microphones when using a high-gain preamp.

S/PDIF to firewire/usb?
Forums
I am an onetime 2 inch tape time engineer trying to set-up my laptop. I have cubase, asio4all, usb midi keyboard - all running fine. I need some advise on audio recording. I will only record one instrument, or at most a stereo mix, at once. After much research I am still confused but have a couple of ideas of how to proceed.

digital performer waveforms?
Forums
I am using digital performer 5 with a PreSonus firepod to record live direct from our sound board. I have everything set up correctly. I arm the tracks and hit record and it works - it shows the waveform as we record in real time...my problem is when I stop the recording the waveform disappears. how do I make this waveform stay?

Mac Question
Forums
Since going mac about 2 years ago, I have not had any issues of great concern. The only problem I've had is as of late, when my computer is unplugged, the display shuts off after a few minutes even though I have the settings so the screen stays on. Its no life and death issue. But it had me wondering about regular servicing or system cleaning (software wise).
