Life in the Entertainment Industry

Okay, so I'm seriously considering what I want to do with my life and I know I want it to be something involved with music. It's the only thing I feel a real passion for and I'm not a good enough musician to make a living so I thought about audio engineering. I've been checking out SAE Institute in NYC. It's only a 30 min train ride from my home and the tuition is $19,000.

starting a music studio

Ive got the oppotunity to open a small studio. I mainly produce so the studio would mainly be used for production of tracks for people and vocal recordings, guitar recordings...

what would you suggest as a way forward, business wise for this?

I'm just looking at peoples thoughts for this i know i have to look in to it, but as a starting point I'm here.

thanks

AC Noise (w/ audio sample)

I moved into a new house about a month ago. The power in the recording area (a former garage converted into a bedroom) is really dirty: I can't record guitar amps right now because the noise is so bad. But I also found out this morning doing some acoustic guitar work that the noise is getting in through my microphones when using a high-gain preamp.

I Need a Quality Preamp with Lots of Clean Gain

I just bought two Mics a Shure KSM44 and a SM7b now I just need too get a nice quality matching preamp to go with them. one of my worries is too get enough good clean gain from the preamp for my SM7b Mic .which I know is going to take a lot of gain 60 to 70db any good seggestions to power it? ...I found a good used Grace within my budget. I would appreacate your advice and suggestions?

Mac Question

Since going mac about 2 years ago, I have not had any issues of great concern. The only problem I've had is as of late, when my computer is unplugged, the display shuts off after a few minutes even though I have the settings so the screen stays on. Its no life and death issue. But it had me wondering about regular servicing or system cleaning (software wise).
