Seeking Kick Drum Mic Advice

I use an acrylic kick drum that measures 22" x 20". It sounds huge in my studio. Then I mic it with a Beta-52 a few inches into the resonant head, facing some 20 degrees off-center and an MXL 63M a few feet from the drum, facing on-center. This is the best combination I was able to find, but it still leaves me way unimpressed.

plugin advice.

I have a 001 and am about to upgrade to a 002 in order to use PT 7.

I have yet to buy any plugins since upgrading to PT 6 a couple years ago.

What are the most popular plugins that are being used as far as EQs, Comps, Gates, and Amp modelers?

I guess what I'm asking is what would you guys purchase?

Any specific bundles?

Thanx, Jeremy

Hi there...Last year I recorded a full album for a Hard-core punk band...they had a guest vocalist which screamed in a very strange way (in the room you could only hear the very very high frequnsize) anyway- next week he is coming back to studio to recored his own Hardcore trash band...and I realy don't know how to handle his strange vocals...
here is a sample of last years CD...

Could use microphone advice from resident gurus.

I may have mentioned this before. but my studio is changing the way it does things from recording primarily vocals only, to recording all manners of bands and genres of music. Basically, anyone who walks in the door, I'll record them if they are not too "high maintenance"...because we need the money and what we were doing before wasnt really paing the bills.

Can someone clarify Daniel Lanois' advice about bouncing?

I read this article featuring Daniel Lanois. He mentions the benefits of premixing rhythm guitars, drums, and bass into stereo and then layering the lead sounds to give them more space in the mix.

I'm confused as to why the drums, rhythm guitars and bass should be bounced to stereo before adding lead guitars, vocals, etc.
