There seems to be so many types of AKG 414s out there. Can anyone explain the different versions, what makes them different, and what is best?

Hi, I have an AKG C414 and I was considering selling it to buy a Neumann U87. I record Hip Hop and Mostly RnB and I use my Mics with an Avalon 737 sp.
1. would you recommend the U87 for RnB vocals or is there a better mic for this purpose in the same price range.

Hi, new to this forum. I have a AKG D880 Emotion mic, which I bought about 4 years ago. Recently, I've noticed a lot of mid-freq's in the recording, like the mic is completely missing its warmth that it used to have. I have the completely same setup as I did before, except Cool Edit Pro 2.0 instead of 1.1., and I can clearly tell the difference while listening to older records.

Just wanted to remind folks about a problem I encountered with AKG headphones years ago. The entire AKG headphone line is out of "absolute phase" with the rest of the world. This can be easily verified by placing one headphone cup over your mic and then sending a 1khz test tone from your daw to it and then record it.

Out of the blue one of my 414`s has lost its recording level. I'm using a pair for drum OH`s I checked the pads, phantom power and everything seems to be adjusted as it should be. I even changed cables and tried different channels but, no difference. so i'm pretty sure it`s the mic.

I just bought 2 pre-owned AKG D-190E's.
Can somebody tell me something about their specific qualities
& what recording situations they are suited / much applied for?

I'm a musician/producer setting up a simple home studio [raw pre-production / demo's] but don't hav' much knowledge (yet) on mic's & mic-ing.

Not sure what the difference is between the AKG C414 B-XLS, B-ULS, TLII and so on. Could someone please enlighten me. I used a C414 in a studio last month and loved how it worked with my vocals.

I wonder if a pair of these fig 8s would be good enough for a main pair using Blumlein? Jeremy has already recommended these to me as a good SDC fig 8.
