Is the API 3124 basically 4 API 512c's in a strip?

After searching through the forums, I think I've narrowed it down to 2 choises the Sebatron VMP4000e or API 3124+.

My current pres are the 4 on the Digi 002 and 8 PreSonus Digimax (via light pipe)

My only weak link left in my studio is my DDA-console which is not bad but not compareable to high-end consoles either. The rest of my gear is up there. I use my studio only for my own productions and I've made the recording chain a priority 'coz i mix in larger facilities.

Looking for anyone who has direct experience with both units to give a comparison. I have no problem buying a clone if it saves me good money, but I don't want to waste my money if they aren't even close to the real thing.

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone here has ever used the API 8200 and 8200a summing mixers. If so, are they at all like the 3124? Is this a good set of pre's for tracking rock drums, just going in XLR and out the send from the insert? Any advice would be helpfull,

I've been wringing my hands over this question for awhile now. Do I buy the 6-space API lunchbox with two 512c's, or the Seventh Circle Audio kit with the two APIs.

I'm fine with building the SCA pre's, this isn't a problem. I'm more worried about price vs sound quality, features and resale value.

can someone tell me the differences between this two pres?

Is it worth the switch from Focusrite 428 to API 3124+ ?

My friend has an API 3124 mic preamp and I keep reading in forums that those things are so hot that in order to squeeze the flavor out of them you have to pad the outputs so you can crank the drive to add the flaor it. What device is used to pad the outputs ? Thanks!
