How do you convice a band to let you record them?
I know a big part of this job is going out and seeing live bands, but a few times I've gone to see some random bands and I end up liking one or two of them enough to have the desire to bring them in to a studio and work with them.

Live Band Recording - Small Bar
I need to record a recital for a rock n' roll ensemble in a bar situation for a music school. I'm doing this for free to get my name out there. I was planning on using a XY stereo setup centered between the mains and in the middle of the room. Is this a good approach? Suggestions Please!

Recording a 5 piece band with 4 busses. suggestions?
I have a session coming up and it is the biggest one I've had so far. My big problem is that I am using only the 4 buses off my mixer into my computer but the band Im recording wants to do everything live, without overdubs. this would be fine if it was a smaller band but I need to mic drums (4 mics) a keyboard, guitar, bass, and vocals. I was wondering how i should go about it.
Live Jazz Band Rec - Thoughts?
I am recording my son's HS Jazz Band concert. Instrumentation is pretty typical: 5 saxes, 4 bones, 4 trpts, piano, bass, drums, & 3 vocals. I would like to provide a recording (CD) to raise funds for the band. What set-up and mix-down considerations will help yield a decent product?

:w: Tomorrrow night I'll be recording my son's nationally recognized HS jazz big band live in concert. I have 4 large diaphram condensers, 2 electrets, and 2 instrument dynamics. All will be mixed into a digital 8 track. The brass section has 6 sax's (1st row), 5 trombones (2nd), and 5 trumpets (back row). There is an electric bass and guitar, acoustic piano, and drums.
