How to get smokin' bass tone, DI, POD, Mic?

Forums

Hey guys, have a big session coming up and was wondering if any of you guys have any ideas on how I can get a killer bass tone. (Rock/Country) I ususally go thru a Meek VC3Q which I like and use a LA 2A (uad card) for comp. Sometimes just into my A%H board then Nuendo with the magneto plugin on it. Rarely do I use a mic sound.

Mono "Bass" on Vinyl - Definition in Hertz?

Hey,

What is the definition of "bass" that needs to be mono for vinyl?

I'm seeing different numbers -- below 125 Hz, 150 Hz, 300 Hz, 400 Hz?

Is there any official definition?

Does it depend on what the bass is doing? Traditional "stereo image" versus actively bouncing around? Fairly compressed level versus punchy amplitude changes?

Problems with a SansAmp Bass Driver DI - XLR output weak

The subject sums it up - the XLR output is about 20% the volume of the unbalanced output. Surely a faulty unit? As a newbie, I may be missing something. I mailed Tech21, still awaiting a response.

If it is faulty the trouble is, I bought it from America, and have a demo deadline to meet. So I am not particularly keen on sending it back for replacement.

Which mic is best for recording bass drum?

Forums

I see time after time when it comes to Micing a bass drum, some choose between a decent condenser or a high pressure (one that comes to mind is the AKG D112) dynamic mic. Some others are the Shure beta series. I know when eq is applied, it's usually curved or set around or about 100Hz. What's mostly used to get that deep thump on most recordings?

Compression 101 (Bass DI, Vocals, Nady CL 5000)

Forums

I record without a board direcly into two Aardvark Q10's into Sonar 2.2 XL.

I have some nice compressors I can use later in mix down, but I just bought my first outboard compressor, a NADY CL-5000.

Would anyone be willing to share some pointers on how to get started using it for two applications:

1. Bass Guitar recorded DI
2. Vocals
