Recording Bass Guitar Straight To Recorder or Miced?
Hello,
I am very new at recording music. I own a Zoom MRS 802B recorder. When I record the bass I plug straight into the machine. The sound is very muddy and far from pure. I was wondering if it is better to mic the amp and record that way. If anyone has suggestions please let me know.
Take it easy on me, remember I am new at this. Thanks
recording 2 bass players
The band I'm in at the moment has two bassists, how would we go about recording two basses and still having both bassists heard? We play metal mostly, all i can think of is completely separating the tone and paning one bass far left and the other bass far right,
Any ideas or help would be great 8-)

Nice Bass recording - laboriel sound ?
Hello,
I am thinking of a "nice" bass recording, and would like if some of you have an idea of Abraham Laboriel's sound or close related sound, and what kind of material is used to obtain it.
The latest I heard from him is the live "abe&friends" in Zurich with Paul Jackson Jr, Vinnie Colaiuta. Great players, Great sound !
Many thanks for the insights :-)

Bass guitar dull (and a few more ?'s)
I just got finished tracking a rock band. I recorded the bass guitar straight into a direct inject pre on my Firepod, into my computer. compared to other bassists i have recorded, his sound was really dull. i know his guitar wasn't top of the line, and his playing lacked some technique. I dont play any string instruments, so i couldnt really suggest anything to help him.

How do I get my bass to sound like this?
I have an Ibanez soundgear run of the mill 4 string bass. I have been listening to this CD from The Flaming Lips called Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. And for the life of me have no idea how to make my bass sound anywhere like this. I'm using Cubase for the EQ and compression and stuff and fairly new to recording the bass. I'm recording it direct and not with an amp.

I recently acquired this fender solid state bass head. But I have no clue what kind of head it is. Does anyone know the exact name or any details of it?

KICK DRUM AND BASS
Exactly how do I work with the kick drum and bass. Should I be gating the kick drum and compressing the bass? I just want them to work well together. Any tips?
