ive been messing around with different things in adobe audition with my bands raw tracks but i cant seem to figure out how to get that real nice "bass boom" that most bands put right into the intro of their breakdowns.

if any of you know what i speak of and are knowledgeable at performing this feature could you please tell me how?

I've been recording this band, and I'm having trouble getting the bass to cut through the mix consistently. It cuts through when he plays higher notes it seems, but the low end just sounds like a wash under the mix. Here's a link...

Is there anything i can do when recording a bassist that plays some notes loud and some soft at kind of a random rate? I told him to try to keep it under control but and he sort of did but i still need help!
We're trying to go for that metallic sort of punkish sound that sound mor like "boong boong boong" than "boom boom boom"

Should we use compression? while tracking?

For anyone into atmospheric / ambiance and electronic work. And some drone.

Is it a good idea to boost fundamental (lowest) frequencie of the bass. So you can hear it more clearly. Or it is better to boost harmonic (higher related) frequencies. Or maybe cutting of some frequencies between harmonic ones? That is the question that bothers me most.

I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions on geting a good electric bass sound from a PA sytem. Basically the signal chain goes like this:
Bass -> DI Box(not bass DI) -> Desk -> speakers (2x15" and a sub).

What I need:

A high quality effects processor to use when playing my bass guitar live. It would include EQ/delay/chorus/compression etc.

I know it's all in the fingers but, is this tone unique to a special gear setup?

I have know since I set up shop that the LF in my monitoring environment had some peaks. Not as bad as a bedroom, but definitely not smooth. (The monitors are B&W 801series III which can definitely reproduce 25Hz, and flat to boot.)

I was wondering, the bass-sound on songs like High Crime by Al Jarreau, is it synth bass?

If it's bass-guitar, what kind of effect is he using, and how?

Another example is Canned Heat by Jamiroquai, now I know this is synth bass, but has anyone got any idea which effects and how to use them to get this kind of sound?
