I'm looking into getting my drum kit seriously miked up, and i've got an idea of some good mics to use. I'm curious to know: I've read that using compression on kicks and snares can be a great idea for an awesome sound, i'm just curious to know what compressors to use. I'm on a really tight budget, so not too much flexibility there.

I'm looking for a compressor/limiter for tracking to a daw (Pro Tools LE via mBox). I'm not really looking for it to impart a character, but more to just reign in the transients and keep stuff from clipping.

I just bought a 1-channel outboard preamp and a 2-channel outboard compressor.

My question is: how do I use both the compressor and preamp at the same time?

Do I use the effects send/return inputs? Or do I use a ton of XLR cables going from my mics to my preamp to my compressor then finally to my multitracker?

I'm mastering an electronica/rock demo, and my choices are:

Drawmer DL241
dbx 166A
Digitech VCS-1

I've used the dbx and Digitech for vocal compression before, but never for mastering. I heard the Drawmer is the best, is that true?

I will also be running the audio through an SSL to get more warmth.

I want a Distrssor with Brit Mod. Cant afford one, but heard some pleasant things about the SC2 from Joemeek . I know some of their newer stuff is Chinese junk (or, so Ive heard from many), but some of their higher-end/older models are actually quite usable, and quite good! is this one made in China?

Is this a good piece of equipment? Also, how flexable between recording and live? thanks.

So, I have the Mbox full bundle (PT 6.7, Sound Factory, IK Media, etc.).

I have been extensivley using/experimenting with the meek compressor, bombfact compressor, and the standard PT compressor plugins. They're OK for some particular instruments, but not very satisfactory.

I'm currently in need of a budget hardware compressor. I already have a dbx 160A and find it to be useful. But now I'm in need of another channel of hardware compression. I'm not sure if I should get another 160 or try something else. The only other quality comp I see for a good price is the RNC 1773.

I need a good eq and compressor for my DAW.

I don't want to spend more than $150.00 each.

any suggestions?
