What would you guys do first? Right now I'm using two RNP/RNC combos and I want to improve the quality of my recordings. I am going to get two X73i's with the power supply, a UA 1176, and an Empirical Labs Distressor...but I only have enough money to get the pre's OR the compressors now. Thank you

With so many going over to PC based recording there is a ton of second hand rack gear about. I am in need of a couple of compressor/gate units for general purpose use, vocals drums etc.
There seem to be a lot of dbx 266 about, what do you guys think of them or can you suggest others.

I'm looking for half decent compressor but i'm on a bit of a budget, idealy I would like something that uses tubes to add some coloration but thats probably out of my range, anyways if anyone has any recommendations.

I have already a preamp (Behringer Ultragain Pro),
a condenser mic (B-1),
pc and sound card.
I want to invest on a compressor to be able to record "something"right...
i dont want to spend a fortune i just want to get something to do my "job-hobbie" which one do you suggest?

I am just starting to get into the whole recording thing so I might be posting often to gain information. But my question is. What is better buying external compressor or using a software compressor. Will the sound be the same quality either way or will the external sound better? Will all out board or "external" effects sound better then computer software or will it sound equal?

Does the O2R96 have a key input for the compressor ? my old O2R had one and I can't seem to find it on the O2R96 (about to buy one tomorrow).

I know it has one for gates.
