Which comes first, compressor or preamp?

I have a PreSonus Bluemax compressor, and just got an M-audio DMP3 preamp. This is my front-end (such as it is) for a home DAW setup. I would only be using the Bluemax on vocal tracks. My question is this...do I run the mic ( a Groove Tubes GT1) into the preamp first, then compression? This seems the logical method to me, but I'm not sure.

Vintech X81-Distressor or TUBE TECH comp . Killer VOX?

Hey all, planning towards new additions. Primary style Gospel-Hip-Hop, RAP, R&B, etc. Current pieces:

SP C1
MXL V69M
Focusrite ISA 428
MOTU 2408MKIII

I'm wanting to add to my pallete the Vintech X81 and either the TUBE TECH compressor or the Distressor. I also am locked on the Blues Kiwi and the AD card for the ISA.

Vari-Mu and Massive Passive AD/DA conversion ?

I have a varimu and Massive Passive a Rosetta 800 and Big Ben and Masterlink.

What now? does anyone have any sugestions about rooms, monitors, and mastering processes using the gear that I have mentioned above.

More history:

Choosing opto-compressor

I'm about to get an opto-compressor for vocal-tracking as it's primary use. I have lots of comps but not one with an optical gainreduction element. My most commonly used mic/pre combination is my vintage Neumann bottle with M7 capsule and 1073 pre.

First, do you think I should go for a discrete LA-3 style compressor like the Langevin LOP or a LA-2 style tube design. I'm looking at:
