I am a drummer and monitor my drums through headphones. I use a Crown D-75 amplifier, which is a very high quality amp with headphone output. My problem is, even though the amp is very high quality, I keep frying the headphones. The reason is because after I get all gain structure settings set, every once in a while one of the knobs gets turned inadvertently, and the headphones are history.

I've been reading about the types of compressors that some of the top mixers use, and read about Inward Connections Vac Rac limiters (apparently one of Tom Lord-Alge's fave compressors). However, an online search yielded scant information regarding whether they're still manufactured, details of the unit itself or even any distributors or dealers who have them.

Can anybody tell me what's the difference in sound between the Urei 1176 and 1178?(I know, the 1178 is stereo) I think there are only silverface 1178 around. Is there an difference like with the 1176 blackface/silverface? Is there something in serial-numbers that's important? Is the four- Buttons-In-Trick working with the 1178.

Would 2 stereo linked 1176's (Purple or UA) sound good on a mix bus?

I've seen a couple of silver 1178's for sale on Ebay, usually described as a stereo version of an 1176. Sounded pretty intriguing, except that recently on one of these forums someone (sorry, can't remember who, but I think it was someone heavy) said that the 1178 in no way sounds anything like an 1176. The implication was clearly that it was an inferior beast.

I've used this for few months, but never had much to compare it to, other then the UA reissues (LA-2A and 1176).

Any comments for or against the TUBE TECH CLA2B Compressor?

Does it shine on any specific type of application?

And how does the link (link 1 and link 2 switches) work?

a friend of mine tell me, he heard about a masteringengineer from england (the guy who mastered the last robbie williams record) that he never use the stereolink-function on his prismsound-compressor . he says, the music lost liveness & the stereoinformation get distroyed in some way.
