EQ and mastering question

ok ive just finished mixing a song into the final master mix. my question is what all do you normally do to a master mix?
I'm using cool edit pro. normally what i do is do a final light noise reduction to eliminate any hiss, then i hard limit, then normalize it. i think my stuff sounds ok...its nice, clean, and loud and all, but I'm still wondering about some things...

song mastering

Just finished mixing the song. The band might get intreasted in getting it pro mastered (I'm coaxing them into it) . But before we decide, ill post a link to the song and let you ppl. decide whether it's worth it or not.

what compression ratio for mastering?

Just checking to see what ratio is normally used in rock for boosting volume without squashing the song too much. I just finished a song and applied a 2:1 stereo compression to it. Its still not loud but has very prominant dynamics. (sounds good in my opinion but just not very loud). Is a 3:1 ratio considered too severe in today's rock music?

Starting / Getting into Vinyl Mastering

I am considering making the leap into 'VINYL cutting & mastering'.

I have been searching for a cutting system & equipment & it's very difficult to find anything (in USA at least).

I'm really interested in making test plates / acetates / dub plates for clients of my recording studio as well as myself.

What are some good equipment recommendations?

mastering at home although you know nothing about it

These finalizers have great reviews its just so tempting not to get one and try the wizard modes out. so i have three questions

1 jump straight in and get the tc electronic 96k and learn from the wizard mode

2 look for something secondhand like the dbx quantum

3 dont bother its just another mythe so you spend even more on being curious
