How, for love of the almighty, do I rout my patchbay?

I have a digi002, some api's in a lunchbox, some outboard eq, an MPC 2000, and a soundcraft 200 8ch mixer as well as a neutrik 24 channel patchbay. I am trying to figure out what the best way to link all of this stuff through the bay is. Ideally, I would like to not have to unplug and replug everything anymore.

PAtchbay

can someone please help me, i have a few good preamp s and if i want to A/B them with the same mic i have to unplug the mic and replug it into a differnet input (in the live room). I think what i need is a de-normalled patchbay, any other suggestions would be great. Sweetwater forum sucks and didnt help me at all with this.

S/PDIF patchbay?

I'm thinking of making my own little half rack space S/PDIF patchbay. Depending on the state of flux my little studio is in I have had as many as 5 devices with digital IO. Pulling my rack stand out to use the ports is a pain. Fabricating the thing isn't a problem. I am wondering about the propensity of signal degradation with digital transmission.

Cables / Patchbays

I am trying to decide on the best way to easily patch a microphone into different mic preamps. I have a couple of reasonably high quality cables leading from my vocal/recording booth into the control room. The back of my rack with the mic preamps is not easily accessible (as the control room is somewhat small).
