Wirning and Patchbay

I am just about to rewire my studio. I was thinking about Mogami studio quad cable using 48 point 1/4" to 1/4" patchbays.

If I hook all my gear up, mic preamps, comps and eqs using XLR to TRS to the patchbays and then use TRS cable to route the signal to the recorder and inserts of the mixer can I expect a loss in quality?

My plan was

PATCHBAYS?

I am really new to the recording scene and would like some help. I keep hearing about patchbays and have no clue what they are nor do i know what they do. Please help i would realy appreciate it. And would anyone give me some tips on a good recording set-up.

Patchbay suggestion

Balanced for 1/4'' TRS. I think I would run most of my outboard gear non-normalled. Since I use a Digidesign 002 with limited INS and OUTS, I am going to be doing a fair amount of patching, but nothing too extreme. Nothing more than 48 ins. Now, is there a sound difference between $100 1/4" TRS patchbays and $500 1/4'' TRS patchbays? Or is it mostly durability? My budget is about $500.

Patchbays

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to explain what they use their patchbayfor, specifically. At my university, the patchbayis used to connect the sub-outs to the inputs, but for some reason I'm thinking that there are other ways of connecting things. If I'm wrong, oh well.

XLR Patchbay?

Does anyone know of an available XLR patchbay?

I'd prefer to purchase one before resorting to building it.

I'd like to maximise my work flow and connect my pci audio interface to the patchbay, making the swapping of instruments/vocal inputs a little easier.

Any wisdom is appreciated.

patchbayor?

I'm connecting a control room to a studio and i dont want to use a snake. i havent put up the drywall or insulation in the wall frame yet, and i cant seem to find "patchbays " on the net. i find patchbays for the common control room use, but nothing to mount into a wall to carry signal from the studio into the control room. any ideas?
thanks
