Looking for a mentor, any takers? (classical piano)
I am new to these forums as a poster, but I have read them hours a day along with other sites such as gearslutz. These forums definitely have the most talented recording engineers on them, and I would love if someone could take me in, and help me.
Recording Piano in Chamber Music
The thread on recording solo piano got me thinking about the challenges of spot Micing piano on chamber music concerts. I record a lot of chamber music with piano. Generally, there are two to seven string players or wind musicians situated in front of the piano. And they all like to snuggle up to the piano and play right in front of it.

Suggestions for recording trumpet and piano 4 audition tape?
Hi,
I'm putting together a recording for a recorded audition for an orchestra.
I will be recording mainly trumpet, but also with piano in parts.
The venue is quite live in acoustic , but not as bad as a toilet!
I will be using Logic Pro 6 with a MOTU 828.
HELP! Mastering a grand piano
Are there any general guidelines for mastering a grand piano recording?
I've got a stereo-matched pair of Rhode NT5's in a coincident pattern going into a PreSonus Firebox then into my laptop at 24bit/96kHz. I thought I had found a good mic placement (about 12 inches above the strings, and about 12 inches back from the action, where the bass and treble string cross).

Yamaha Motif 8/Piano recording question
Currently I have a Yamaha motif 8, and i am looking to get a better recording out of it. Its ultimately going into a Delta 1010, but I have a question about preamps. Should I have it preamped before it hits the Delta? I was looking for a gain in the signal, but I am more concerned with a clean clean sound coming thru, especially when using different voices.

Grand Piano: KSM32 or 414?
I'll be recording pop grand piano on a Yamaha in a few hours. I plan to use a spaced pair, but not too far away from the piano, because the room sounds bad, and I want to capture as little room as possible, but at the same time, not too much attack from the hammers, so it doesn't sound harsh.

Panning the piano, bass to the right or left?
We did the piano concerto in that very difficult acoustics. Main mics were ORTF Sennheiser MKH406. A few spots and outriggers. And an Royer SF24 rather (too ? ) close on the piano.
