What mics are great for female vocals?
I am wanting to find out if I can improve the quality and character of lead female vocals, since that is a main element of the commercially distributed music my wife and I create. We are thinking that a more appropriate mic could help. We have been using a Neumann TLM 103, but the sound we are getting has a harsh edgy quality. We also have a CAD E-200, but it tends to have a muffled sound.

TLM-103. Anyone's fav. vocal mic?
HI all,
I was just wondering if anyone here who REALLY loves this mic, especially for vocals. While it's heavily criticised in some quarters, some people of course are fanatical about it.
Regards,
John Stafford

Microphone test of vocal microphpones
A couple of Danish producers/engineers, among them Mr. Allan Bregnedahl and Torsten Matthiessen, got together this summer and tested as many microphones as they could get their hands on. A very interesting test, and I thought I would link to it here. It's in Danish, so I will just translate the introduction:

Vocal mic for opera singers
Has anyone here ever recorded opera singers and can recommend:
a good mic $1500-2500 range and a pre at same range
Harmonics in the opera voice is a fundamental characteristic to the sound and I wouldn`t want these overtones to be compressed. Any specific mic used as a preference. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Remigio

Recommend a Vocal Mic Please :)
I am looking to make an upgrade from the current mic i am using for vocals... the Neumann TLM 103. I am looking for a significant change/upgrade. I have about $3000 to spend. I want the vocals to be warm, full and present...used mostly for pop, rock, and alternative music. i am using an Avalon m5 mic preamp recording into digital performer... can anyone recommend some mics to check out.

Second Primary Vocal Mic - Not Budget Minded
I run a studio and do a lot of different recordings from singers to voice overs to acoustic instruments. I run through a variety of nice mic preamp's - Neve, API, Avalon, and am happy with my workhorse mics including the AKG TL-II. I need to purchase another mic and am looking for suggestions. Under $3,000.

Vocal mic placement issues
Hi,
I have a low budget Proj studio and am using a cheaper Oktava MC312 and a Presounus preamp. The problem I have is If I record quiet vocals they sound great (considering a cheap Mic and PreSonus Preamp).
