Recording with a MXL 990 mic, can I make my voice sound better

Im a freshmen college student and have recorded three songs with my friend literally in my dorm room. Haha. I like many others have the MXL 990/991 condenser mic pack that I got for under a $100. I made a quick myspace with the three songs I've recorded. I wanted some input on how the vocals sound?

Close Micing Vocals - Difficult Voices

Like most engineers, I strive to eliminate as many variables in the recording process as possible. A large choral group I record often includes high volume gospel tunes. More often than not, there's one or more male or female soloists belting out the lyric over the top of the 120 voice group. Add to this a driving drum and bass line, piano, guitar, etc.. You get the picture.

Mic suggestions for a female voice

At the recording studio at my church we have a Gefell MT71S run through a Great River ME-1NV. This combo has proven great for a couple of guys that we have used it for, but we tried it on a female singer last night and it just wasin't that great. Now we did try several distances and gain settings, but didin't get the results we wanted. So now I ask you guys and gals.
