I've downloaded and loaded up amny good midi drum sounds and want to trigger using my midi MPB 16 controller... Akai with pads.. So I can play live to record the basic drums I want before editing midi style. I'm new to Cubase 4 but getting better every day... Midi isn't my strength so need some help

The mpd should read the drums automatically . if there is an octave switch on your controller use that to go back and fourth your drum sounds across the piano roll style layout that cubase uses.
if you are looking to get specifically assigned notes. upgrade to cubase 5 for about 170 USD which comes with an MPC style virtual drum sequencer , Or purchase battery 3 ( i use it) which will give you the drum assignments you are looking for.
