I'm a Cubase sx 2 user and I have a Tascam FW 1884.
PC: P4 3.2ghrz 1.2 giog or ram (corsaire), hdd ultra atra 7200rpm 160gig HD2, external usb 2 western digital 260 gig (for audio track)
I'm tired of Cubase crashing (since my 2 last pcs) I know it's not the PC because It's brand new. maybe it's the Tascam anyways, I'm thinking about lossing the FW 1884 and Cubase sx2 to get a Digidesign 002R with a Tascam u2400 controller . what do you guys think? any better suggestions? The only thing that bother me is the limited amount of track in Pro Tools LE.
if you think of better gear let me know.
My studio:
AKG c414, Avalon 737sp, ns10s, event 20/20 bas, TC helicon quintet, MoPhatt rack, Motif 6, mpc 2000XL, Genelec sub 1091.

well how can I test my ram? it shows under my "system"> device manager.
also I had the same problem before wit my older PC.
It crashs often and I hear pops and click (a LOT) I have 2 restart the application a few times and perhaps it will fix the problem (of course I tried to change the latancy etc...)

Yes I ran a PC performace test and everything appear to be fine...so i guess the problem comes from my FW 1884 (which faders starts acting funny also!!).
U said to stick with my system, could you exlpain breifeley why?
I thought plugins for Protools were the best and it would also be easier to export my sessions to another studio to get them mixed wihtout loosing the draft I did on my comp.

OK If its the Tascam (let us know - ensure you have tried all driver and firmware updates) I say stick with Cubase.

3 reasons.

1) You know it better

2) There are so many pros & cons that I can't say that 002r is better than Cubase - but you already own Cubase and have invested time and money in it, and I would say buy an EMU card which has the same (or possibly better) converters / preamps instead - the m series i.e. 1820m, and a control surface.

3) Although you can take PT sessions between studios, if you're only going to need to do this once or twice a year, you can take the tracks individually out and strip it back in. You may actually be able to take Cubase 3 direct to PT (Dave, anyone?) now.

Yes you will lose your plugins and EQ but the settings are easy to retransfer and so much else will change (monitors, converters, room, plugins and outboard available) when you move systems that if the mix is going to change, you might as well use your mix as nothing more than a starting point / guidance.

Okay, 4 reasons.

4) The plugins for VST are numerous and cheap or free a lot of the time. RTAS not so much so.

I have no idea if RTAS are better, I don't touch our ProTools rig and the ProTools guy doesn't touch my Cubase. Anyone? VST work and work perfectly so I can't see how anything could be "better" perhaps you mean that some PT-only plugs are better than some VST-only but thats shurely opinion.
