Any experience, feelings, opinions on JBL L-56. 10" and a tweeter. I want some larger monitors. These are old but they are JBL...

No, the DC stands for direct current. And so, this amplifier can not only have a response down to Direct Current, it can be used as a DC amplifier if you want to amplify a 1.5 volt battery up to full rail potential, to approximately 70 volts & 300 W in bridged mode.
This old amplifier will work when the connection is improper, i.e. too low or too high in impedance. No load (open circuit without connection). Or, completely shorted out (bag cable or connection) & survive. Not many amplifiers can do that without catastrophic failure.

It's a great sounding monitor! In fact, I liked it better than my 4308 and as much as my 4310/11/12 with the mid range driver turned off.
I like it when powered from my Crown DC 300. I really didn't like it when powered from our Macintosh 2100. Definitely sounded fatter & flabbier. Where it sounded tighter, punchier through the Crown. So basically what I'm saying is, I think you like it better on a direct coupled amplifier output?
You should also know that a 150 W/Channel & no less than 75 W/Channel amplifier should be used. These are also very efficient speakers and produce a lot of sound with very few watts of input power. But to really appreciate them, you'll want some headroom.
