This may make me sound a bit dumb, but if I disable the EQ and Compression in the Thorax, in essence just using it as a pre-amp, is that pre-amp identical to the VMP1000e?
I'm thinking I'd like a VMP and a Thorax, but if I get them both with the Thorax, I just might pony up the extra $$$.

Yes it's the vmp series core circuit in the THORAX pre but with some more features and flexibility ....
Namely:
1/ More Gain
2/ Pad switch ( three position ) which is based around an attenuation network ...
3/ Colour Control ( six position ) which controls the amount of feedback around the first gain stage of the Triode.
These upgrades widen the applicability and performance capability of the THORAX preamp not only in it's own context but in conjunction with the Compressor section to provide a wide range of colours and textures.
