EQ and mastering question

ok ive just finished mixing a song into the final master mix. my question is what all do you normally do to a master mix?
I'm using cool edit pro. normally what i do is do a final light noise reduction to eliminate any hiss, then i hard limit, then normalize it. i think my stuff sounds ok...its nice, clean, and loud and all, but I'm still wondering about some things...

song mastering

Just finished mixing the song. The band might get intreasted in getting it pro mastered (I'm coaxing them into it) . But before we decide, ill post a link to the song and let you ppl. decide whether it's worth it or not.

what compression ratio for mastering?

Just checking to see what ratio is normally used in rock for boosting volume without squashing the song too much. I just finished a song and applied a 2:1 stereo compression to it. Its still not loud but has very prominant dynamics. (sounds good in my opinion but just not very loud). Is a 3:1 ratio considered too severe in today's rock music?

What gear do you use to master Rock albums ?

This might be a wide type of question, but I would really appreciate your answers. I plan on starting to learn to master mainly rock albums. I have my own recording studio, but I dont intend on mastering what I record. Im going to master other people's work.

What mastering compressor, EQ, limiter, summin bus, processors, monitors do you use or recommend?

Redbook CDs

How can I tell if a recorded CD-R will meet the Redbook standards?

I want to be able to make a demo CD that will play in all players that are designed to read audio CDs. I realize that some old machines may not be able to read through the greenish tint as opposed to the clear silver looking pressed ones, but otherwise I want the demo CD to be capatible.
