software compressor kill the need for "colored" mics/preamps
I'm looking for a mic and a preamp for home studio recordings.
I reckon that if I buy a nice clean mic (Neumann TLM 103) and a nice clean preamp (Apogee Mini-Me), I'll do whatever tone coloring I need with a high class software compressor (for example UAD, Voxengo Marquis, etc).
So, no need for "colored" mics and/or preamps.
What do you think about this?
Micing into 2 preamps
Here's anouther question for you guy's
Anybody ever track vocals or whatever using a splitter or perhaps even 2 mics side by side through 2 mic preamps to seperate tracks?
I thought this might be useful if you had 2 diff sounding preamps (ex. one dark, one bright) that during mixdown you could blend accordingly to taste, or even pan left/right etc.

Volume problems: Recording direct and mic'd
I'm trying to basically y-cable my PODxtLive so I can record direct and mic my Atomic at the same time (same performance). This allows me to blend the channels as well as just using one track or the other. The problem is that there is no master volume on the Atomic so in setting the Pod volume to get a good/clear direct level the Atomic becomes WAY too loud.

Drum mics: CAD or Samson
I need to buy a set of drum mics and my budget is not even enough to buy one REAL mic. My kit is pretty big (2 snare, 4 tom, 1 BD, and 7 cymbals) and I want the sound of close Micing the toms so that rules out the 2 overheads and a bass mic method. Its between the CAD pro-7 pack and the Samson 7 or 8 kit. They both have good reviews considering thier price. Does anyone have any insight?

Those Nady Ribbon Mics
The singer in my band is a little hard to record. He has kind of a high voice (Robert Plant/Bon Scott, etc.)All my mics hate his voice (NTK,a couple of AT's,MXL's,etc.).They're all pretty bright, and they seem to over accentuate the treble content of his voice.

I don't understand mic attenuator switch
I have an AT4033a/SM, with the -10dB attenuator switch. I am recording vocals, and I don't understand if I should be using the pad switch or not.
The manual says this for Maximum Input Sound Level:
145 dB SPL, 1 kHz at 1% T.H.D.
155 dB SPL, with 10 dB pad (nominal)

DPA 4061 Microphones
DPA 4061 microphones for live vocals. I am considering buying one. I would be interested to know in your experience the best set-up to treat my voice with echo, compressors, mic preamp, reverb, limiters, etc. I would also be interested to hear from Westend show sound designers who use this mike, too. The music is Progressive Rock which is sometimes loud sometimes not.

Microphone problems
I cannot get the microphone on my headset to work on my Motion Computing Tablet PC, Win XP. I know there is nothing wrong with the mic because it works on my other computer.
