I have just realized that I have completed one year posting on here.

I will never, ever sing. But, as an all around mic I am looking at an AKG4000b to start. This would be the SECOND piece of equipment I own.

IS it an alright mic? Or a fancy radio shack toy?

I have a dispute with an engineers in our studio.I'm going to buy Voice master /The old model not PRO/.They told me that this unit is distorting a sound.But I like what I'm hearing!
What you think guys is this model is OK for recording vocals and compressing?

Is there a reasonably priced pair of headphones that could be used for mixdown without too much coloration? Or even a pair that isn't reasonably priced? I'm worried if I use speakers, that the sound of my room, or of the speakers will throw me off. For that matter, what is a decent pair of near field monitors going to cost?

I have a DP-4 unit I use basically for my drum reverbs it is an amazing piece of gear problem is that it is broke and the company which was bought out no longer does anything for it's customers

Ok so I have another issue I've been wrestling with...standard panning procedures.

I guess I view a song as a tapestry, where all the nuances should have a chance to be heard.

In my last prog rock band I had a difficult time mixing so that everything had its right place in the mix.

Reading thru the "which DAW" thread and otherwise, I get the feeling there are a bunch of folks looking at the same question that's on my mind: whether to switch from Cubase to Samplitude.

I use Cubase 5.1, because I'm terrified of changing my OS and actually not totally convinced that the rest of my rig would be happy in XP.
