Alright guys ive been reading these forums for maybe 2 yrs to gain advice which i have used. Im not recording from home in a room with the dimensions as follows 12 X 16 X 8 ft now I'm gonna be recording scratch guitar and drums on friday. Im wanting to get the best drum sound possible with this room. Any suggestions?

I may understand quite a bit about sound and all that but setting up gear is a mystery to me. My curiousity has come up with this question:

I have the MOTU 8pre interface [obviously] and an AKG Perception 200 Condenser [its phantom powered].

1. The MOTU works with all of my dynamic, non phantom powered mics.
2. The AKG works going straight through my mixer and through a monitor.

and now the problem:

3. I don't get any sound when recording with the AKG through the MOTU.

Im using Cubase SX 3 with a Yamaha SW1000XG, DS2416 and 2 x AX44 input modules.

I wonder what is the best way to connect a guitar for recording, and what eq/settings should be.

I would also like to use an effects pedal and guitar amp at the same time.

this is a "in the future" speculation post.
I don't care all that much to own a full blown studio. really nothing more then being able to track in an iso booth.
I am far more interested in mixing then I am recording, so I dont see my self needing more then 8 tracks to record with at any given time.
