i want to build a home studio for recording to my self guitars, vocals and midi.
i have 4 choices of monitors:
tannoy reveal active
Behringer 2031A truth
Yamaha MSP5
event TR6

How should I connect a mixer to an edirol UA-1A device to record into the computer? What should I use as monitors (receiver and speakers?, PA?) and how do I hook that up to the output of the UA-1A? I've been trying to record with this equipment for awhile now and i think i'm not setting it up properly. Thank you so much if anyone can help. .

I had a couple different people at the flipin "guitar center" tell me to burn CD's at the "slowest" setting for optimum quality. Is this a true statement? Should I burn @ 4x instead of 16x? Are guitar center employees bad apples? Thank you please. 8-)

Ok, from what I understand, this is just a utility to run simulations correct? Or do I need to tweak this for optimal performance? I use a firepod and I thought you control buffer sizes through the firepod driver? Am I doing something wrong? Reason I ask is from reading this thread:

I'm very curious about Dan Alexader preamps. I don't think I've ever come across such mixed reactions; some saying they're very badly built, others saying they are amazing. Apart from that, all I know is that they're Neve 1272-ish

I have been researching these two terms, and am slightly confused! I understand that S/PDIF is more or less a consumer grade version of AES/EBU. They are both a means to transfer digital audio between two devices, correct? Assuming I've got that part right, I'm having trouble finding out what type of modifications I would need to make to a PC to use either one of these connections.

I was using the Reason 3.0 Mastering suite last night and I must tell you guys that it is amazing! I don't know if you really need a hardware compressor. I know Reason can't do audio but you can always export a file from a program like Cubase as an audio file and then load it into the Reason sampler and then use the compressor (or M-class mastering suite).
