Need an external DA converter? Suggestions welcome!

Hi everybody, I'm new on this forum.
I just have a little question:
My mixer's analog outputs (Yamaha DM1000) are connected to a pair of Mackie monitors.
Considering the quality of DM 1000 built in converters (which shouldn't be bad), how much I would benefit if I buy an external dac, like the Benchmark DAC1 or Apogee Rosetta 200 for monitoring?

DSP cards... the truth?

Alright, I understand the principle behind DSP cards. They do the grunt work by processing plugins. My question is concerning the application. Can you only use them with the supplied plugins (like included in a bundle) or does someone make DSP cards that will run your existing DX and VST plugs? Im using a P4 based PC and Win XP with Sonar 4 Producer.

Hard Drive RPM: Does it make a big difference?

I'm going to be building a new DAW and am thinking about using a 10,000 RPM HD for running my programs. I was thinking of using a 7200 RPM HD for my library.

A) Is there a noticable difference in performance between the speek of your HD?
B) If there is a difference should I use the faster for my programs or library?
C) Are there any problems using different HD?

need help with external hard drive

I've got an ibook and a 120 gb external harddrive that I connect via firewire. I ws running a Pro Tools session and something went wrong and I had to shut down the computer (without ejecting the hard drive properly first). When I rebooted I got a message that said the OS could not read any files on the harddrive. I went into disk utilites but I couldn't verify or repair the disc.

Amateur recording and MIDI sampling

Hi everyone! I'm an amateur brazilian musician, who enjoys prog/rock/metal/instrumental style. I am a REAL beginner and I own a X V-amp, which I plug directly into the line-in of my PC Sound board (which is a lame one, BTW). I use GuitarPro 4 to make drum tracks, because everyone of the drum-composing programs that I tried sucked really hard to me.
